Face & Body Sugar Scrub
2 tsp honey
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp olive oil
Mix honey with sugar and olive oil. (I mix it with my fingers while I'm in the shower.) Rub lightly in a circular motion on your face and body to exfoliate.
Ingredients
Honey: Honey is really good for your skin. I've been using raw honey. Am I the only one that didn't know about raw honey until recently? I thought honey was honey but ohhh, was I wrong. Raw honey has the live enzymes, vitamins, and minerals left in so it's going to be more beneficial to your skin. You can check out Crunchy Betty's honey guide to learn more. I bought raw honey at my local health food store, but you can also find it on Amazon. If you don't have raw honey on hand, of course, just use what's in your cupboard.
Sugar: I've been using organic dark brown sugar. White granulated sugar also works well. Normal brown sugar won't work because it's too processed and soft and won't exfoliate as well.
Olive Oil: The olive oil makes this scrub Über moisturizing. I like to use extra virgin olive oil because it's less processed and contains more antioxidents; but again, just use what's in your cupboard. You could even use vegetable oil if that's what you have.
Instructions
My scrub recipe is pretty thick, but that's how I like it so that it will stick to my skin and moisturize away. I use the scrub on my face first. After I'm done, I leave the scrub mixture on my face to moisturize while I'm using the scrub on my body. Then I rinse off with water. If you are going to use soap, lather up before you exfoliate so the oil can soak in until it can't soak in no mo'. If you want a less thick scrub, add a little yogurt (also moisturizing) or add more oil.
Saves Money
By switching to a homemade scrub, I save money AND stop worrying about all the chemicals in commercial scrubs.
$12/oz. Mary Kay Microdermabrasion ($30/2.5 oz.)
$.26/oz. Raw Honey ($6/14 oz), Organic Sugar ($3/32 oz.), & Olive Oil ($9/24 oz.)
Enough talking. Now go try it so you can have soft baby bum skin too!
How do you like to exfoliate?

I have been using a Mary Kay scrub... But I'm almost out and it's expensive. I am loving these homemade cleaners and such that you have been sharing, it's definitely the direction I want to head. I can't wait to try this scrub sometime this week-just have to hit a store to find some raw honey first!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very nice. I have been wanting a scrub for my face, and this sounds like just what I need.
ReplyDeleteKendra, keep these posts coming! I am loving it. We have friends that keep bees, I am hoping to buy their honey in june and then I am totally doing this!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried this with honey. Neat! I saw you on the blog hops and hoped you might come join my DIYlinky starting tomorrow at www.littlehouseinthesuburbs.com . Not a party if I'm all alone!
ReplyDeleteLove this, Kendra! Super quick and easy! Thanks for linking up this week at Tiny Tip Tuesday :)
ReplyDeleteI have to try this! I usually just make a paste with baking soda and water (out of laziness) but for mother's day in a pinch I made a scrub for my mom. I used brown sugar, olive oil, vanilla extract and lemongrass EO, it smelled just like pound cake so that's what I dubbed it (very original, right? lol).
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try your scrub recipe. It sounds heavenly! Thanks for posting! :)
DeleteWhat a great idea! I totally want to try making this... FYI: Raw honey should not be heated above 96 degrees or all the live enzymes in the honey are destroyed. Plus heating it in the microwave irradiates the honey... it is known that the irradiation process breaks up the molecular structure of food. Raw honey is expensive, so if you're going to nuke the honey you might as well just use pasturized/processed honey from the local super market and save the money :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight! I will take the microwave part out of my post. :)
Delete/\ I agree with the not microwaving the honey
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me... it's been a while since I've exfoliated, lol. Great recipe! Thank you for sharing with Healthy 2Day Wednesday; come back tomorrow to see if you were featured!

Great recipe - thanks for sharing. I'm so trying this!
ReplyDeletethis is an amazing article, thanks
ReplyDeletethanx dear for sharing this tip..I am looking for a good scrub
ReplyDeleteCould you use coconut oil instead of the olive oil?
ReplyDeleteHi Cari, I've read that coconut oil can clog pores so you might just want to use it for a body scrub, not a face scrub. But then again, I've read comments from people who use coconut oil on their face and love it.
DeleteI'm going to try this! I ran out of exfoliator but I haven't bought anymore yet. I will give this a try before purchasing anymore. Thanks so much for sharing on Marvelous Mondays! :)
ReplyDeleteI would like to share a home-made scrub I have used since I was a kid,my mom used to apply this on me for softer skin...and it was so so good...I still use it.
ReplyDelete1 tsp. full fat cream
1/2 tsp sugar
2-3 drops of fresh lemon juice
The skin starts to glow after scrubbing and washing off.
I really love reading all your great posts and can't wait to try this scrub! I was wondering if it's possible to make a larger batch and then just leave it in a jar in the shower for the next few days, or if this would somehow ruin the mixture?
ReplyDeleteYes, you can make a bigger batch. Just be careful about not getting water in it or bacteria could start to grow.
