I love trying new recipes. But ever since I made this recipe for the first time ten years ago, I've had no desire to try any other French toast recipes. I stumbled upon it in a cookbook I got for my wedding, The Best Recipe by Cook's Illustrated . I have to say it really is the best! I make it with whole wheat bread and my kids still love it.
INGREDIENTS:
1 large egg
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons sugar
1/3 cup white whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
4-5 slices whole wheat bread
DIRECTIONS:
Heat skillet for 5 minutes on medium heat. Mix all the ingredients together except the bread. I like to use my stick blender for this job. Soak bread about 40 seconds on each side. Cook on each side until golden brown.
